Bricks4kidz
Bricks4kidz offers a hands-on, project based curriculum and proprietary models designed and created by teachers, architect and engineering professionals using Lego bricks. Our programs are conducted through after school enrichment classes, holiday workshops and excursions for ages 3-13. Lessons from maths, science, robotics, programming and language arts are integrated and discussed
AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT CLASSES
This is a hands-on class where students build machines, buildings, vehicles and other structures out of LEGO® bricks, using one-of-a-kind model plans designed by Bricks4Kidz.
While exploring principles of engineering, architecture, physics and more, students will develop problem solving and critical thinking skills.
- Participants build a new project each week.
- Each class begins with a teacher-led discussion related to the day’s model.
- Once the project is completed, children use the rest of their time to expand their gadgets and collaborate with one another.
CURRICULUM / INSTRUCTIONAL CONTENT
Students will work in a lab-type setting using LEGO® components such as gears, axles and beams. Instructional content is multi-disciplinary and designed by educators to increase students’ general knowledge and introduce S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering and math) concepts related to the day’s model. Lessons are designed around students’ interests, with themes like animals, space, transportation and sports. The material covered each session will vary depending on students’ ages, experience, and skill level. All materials will be provided.
Goals
For children to play and socialize with friends while learning fundamentals of engineering and architecture in a non-competitive setting.
To build problem-solving skills, provide an opportunity for creative expression and foster an appreciation of how things work.
To help students understand that Architecture and Engineering are viable career choices.
Benefits
Kids already know how to build with LEGO® bricks, but with a little coaching they can learn about engineering, architecture, physics and math using specialized components.
When lessons are related to something kids enjoy, like building with LEGO® bricks, kids are more motivated and retain more of what they learn.
Working with a partner fosters teamwork and cooperation.
Completing a new challenge each week builds self-esteem.
Duration / Frequency / Cost
The program runs throughout the school year and follows the school calendar.
Classes meet 1 hour per week for 8-12 weeks.
Each session is competitively priced per student.
Students may join in at the beginning of each session.
FIELD TRIPS
Our children have limited choices and access to Science Exhibitions or Museums in Nigeria, so we at Bricks4Kidz are now offering the experience of a field trip at our location in Lekki phase1. Many research papers support the benefits of experiential learning in a formal and informal setting-benefits, for example:
• Increases student interest, knowledge and motivation
• Provides a hands-on, interactive experience
• Creates a different learning environment
• Appeals to varied learning styles
Our field trips vary between 60-90 minutes and are presented in a fun, interactive and engaging manner by our teachers. Pre-and Post-assessment worksheets are provided to ensure that concepts are sufficiently reinforced. The topics can be tailored to match the schools’ Science Curriculum.
HOLIDAY CAMPS
Our camps are fun and engaging ways for kids ages 3 – 13+ to spend their school breaks and holidays. With trained and experienced teachers, kids are guided as they explore a world of engineering, architecture and animated movie-making as they are taken through themes like the Safari, Amusement Parks, Robotics, Space Adventures, Remote Control Mania, etc.
Kids at Bricks4kidz Camps get to use specialized LEGO® technic pieces such as gears, axles and electric motors. Children are grouped in pairs as they work on the assigned Bricks4kidz model. In addition to this, kids get to express their creativity as they come up with their own builds during our free-play periods.
Our Bricks4kidz staff are screened, trained and qualified to ensure your kids are in a safe, comfortable and friendly environment that’s sure to leave your kids with an exciting learning experience.
BRICKS4GIRLZ CAMP
5.5 million girls in Nigeria are out of school with 40% of women and 28% of men never having attended school. This gender gap in education leads to a lack of diversity and untapped potential in our national talent pool and has socio economic impact on families and the community at large.
Our “girls only” workshops provide a lively and interactive environment without distractions or insecurities where girls are exposed to STEM based activities and encouraged to consider STEM careers. Female role models already working in STEM fields are also invited to the workshops which further makes for an engaging session with the girls
